Why Efficiency Metrics Matter in Executive and Leader Development

Establishing Measures and Processes for Efficient Executive & Leader Development

Consider this:

Sixty-eight percent of the high-performing organizations (HPO) in a recent i4cp survey forecast that their company’s demand for leadership development would significantly increase over the next 3-5 years.

Not surprising, right?

However, only 42% forecast that their budgets would increase, and an additional 29% forecast their budget would stay the same. The gap continues to widen.

ELDE Meeting Objectives:

As the competition for resources (budget, people, time) within our companies continues to grow, and the competition for talent in the market escalates, learning leaders are challenged even more to find efficient and effective means to provide more-with-less.

How do learning leaders in HPOs manage their existing budgets to prepare their leaders for more complex business challenges?

What metrics are they using to defend their budgets and staff?

What measures help them to manage their departments to gain maximum efficiency?

Why efficiency metrics matter in ELD :

Efficient management of leadership development is not about Kirkpatrick’s measure of learning! It’s not taught in any program on learning methodologies. Learning efficiency is about Measuring the Utilization of Resources.   But which measures really make a difference?    In this next chapter in i4cp’s People Analytics Series we reviewed what metrics matter and how HPOs are developing and using them.

Recap of First Two Meetings for the People Analytics Series:  You can listen to the kick-off of i4cp’s Exchange-only People Analytics Series here and you can listen to July’s Data Governance exchange for ELD here. Below is a high-level recap of some of the things we heard in last month’s data governance meetings:

  • Most participants do not have a strict data-governance model or are in the process of building one.
  • Data-governance is key in determining what data is useful and how to use it. Defining which metrics matter most is a tougher question.
  • Data-governance drives trust and leadership engagement with employees and management in L&D.
