Succession Planning & Management through the lens of D&I

Thank you all for your participation in our November virtual meeting!

For those who couldn’t attend, we introduced our newest Board members – Tiana Carter, Senior Director, Culture & Engagement at Waste Management; Melonie Parker, Chief Diversity Officer at Google, and Dr. Lonie Haynes, Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at AmerisourceBergen. Each Board member then introduced themselves, with a brief update on their current challenges and accomplishments. This was followed by a presentation from i4cp senior research analyst Thomas Stone and Eric Davis on our latest research into Succession Planning, with a focus on DE&I-related findings. The discussion then turned to i4cp’s new Succession Planning Bias Audit Checklist, part of a series of function-specific bias audit resources that currently cover Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, and the just released Learning & Development (see links below). Also attached is a case study on succession planning at Ball Corporation, one of several research briefs and assets available to those with access to the Succession Planning Knowledge Center or enterprise membership.

Other connection opportunities and questions from the meeting are:

  • Sheila Clark – Looking for examples of D&I competencies that are used in performance management ratings. (this one is also posted on i4cp’s Expert Network with a response from Lori Valle-Yanez)
  • Tiana Carter – Please share best practices on engaging frontline employees with employee resource groups.
  • Jackie Hunter – I would love to know how orgs are managing different holiday celebrations to be inclusive.
  • Jonita Wilson and several others are looking for insights into launching an Executive D&I Council – Tiana Carter and Lorie Valle-Yanez have offered to assist.

Please feel free to reach out directly through our CDO website or ask Jacqui, Madeline, myself, or your organization’s i4cp account manager if you need help setting up a peer connection.

Our next virtual meeting is tentatively scheduled for January 27, 2021, when we will review the findings of the 2021 Board Priority Survey and set our agenda for the coming year. Please let us know if you would like to add an agenda item or if you would be interested in being a guest on one of our upcoming D&I Action Calls.
