Critical Roles Flash Call
Thirteen member companies from our strategic workforce planning and workforce analytics exchanges met to discuss how they approach workforce segmentation and identify critical roles. Highlights of the call:
· Most members on the call are in the preliminary stages of role segmentation, including pilot projects,
· Many are challenged with defining specific role segments but generally use a facilitated Q&A process with operational leaders to identify differentiated activities and skills that contribute most to strategic outcomes (i4cp offered a mapping example that also includes difficulty of the skill to acquire) ,
· Data, job documentation and dialogue are critical elements to creating a successful segmentation process and to defining role segments;
· Experienced practitioners suggest that "strategic" roles may be easier for operational leaders to align around than "critical" roles due to aggage with the term "critical" (see examples),
· The process is ongoing in that markets continue to change what roles are creating differentiated value.
