Internal Talent Mobility: Creating Inside Gigs
At the May Workforce Planning meeting, we welcomed a special guest speaker - Edie Goldberg, Ph.D.. Below is a brief description of Edie’s presentation.
Internal Talent Mobility: Creating Inside Gigs
While strategic workforce planning has always
focused on the critical capabilities needed by an organization and hiring new
employees to meet the business future demands, today companies need to better
optimize the skills they have already acquired inside of their
company and upskill or reskill talent to meet future needs. Internal
Talent Marketplaces hold the promise of helping organizations deploy talent in
a more agile manner. Drawing extensively from her new book, “The Inside Gig:
How Sharing Talent Across Boundaries Unleashes Organizational Capacity” (Lifetree
Media, April, 2020), Edie Goldberg, Ph.D. discussed how, in an
era of rapid change and disruption, companies need to apply the concept of the
gig economy inside of their organization to share talent across
boundaries by dynamically matching and deploying skills to the work. This
creates competitive advantage around an employee experience that both
democratizes work and unleashes internal capacity.
