COVID vaccinations & 2021 Priorities

We started our first meeting of the year by welcoming six new members to our Board and encouraging the group to utilize each other in between meetings as we navigate another “interesting” year. Contact information for each Board member is here.

We then focused on four main areas:

  • Human Capital Disclosure – We encourage all of you to read i4cp’s latest article in the Financial Times related to this topic: https://www.ft.com/content/d328ba92-5af1-46d2-b3a4-05f15c9ba964
  • COVID-19 vaccinations We asked where each Board member’s company was struggling most on this issue. The top 4 responses were:
    • Defining company policy – 10 Board members selected this.
    • Partnering (externally or internally) – 7 Board members selected this.
    • Tracking – 5 Board members selected this.
    • Communicating – 3 Board members selected this.
    • NOTE – Clearly this is a significant issue for all of you. We encourage you to join the i4cp Sr. HR leader call on Feb 11 to continue the conversation among your peers. Register in advance here.
  • Culture Renovation – One of this Board’s Top 4 Priorities for 2021.  We were fortunate to have i4cp’s CEO Kevin Oakes share insights from his new book, Culture Renovation. The discussion resonated strongly with several Board members who are leading Culture renovations at their firms. All CHRO Board members will receive a complimentary copy of the book in the next couple of weeks. We also invite you to download a copy of the report Culture Renovation: A Blueprint for Action
  • Leadership Behaviors for the Organization of the Future – i4cp futurist and co-founder Jay Jamrog shared four common themes from this brand new research. One of the four themes highlighted is the leader’s role in workforce well-being. Education for people leaders on how to identify signs of distress among self and others, as well as how to enable a psychologically safe work environment will be important. i4cp will soon publish several resources from this study.

We ended by asking for Advisors on two new studies that will launch in March 2021:

  • From Cube to Cloud: Key areas we will explore include:
    • The role of the corporate office going-forward
    • Driving collaboration, innovation, and a sense of connection and belonging in a distributed environment
    • Technologies and practices that ensure a consistent (and consistently good) employee experience, from anywhere
  • Workforce Readiness: Key areas we will explore include:
    • The connection between on-going development (e.g., skilling and the purposeful movement of talent) and workforce well-being in the business growth, agility, and sustainability equations
    • Work redesign

If you would be interested in being an advisor on either of these studies, please contact me or Kevin Martin. Christine Deputy from Nordstrom has volunteered to be an advisory on the Cube to Cloud study.

The recording of the meeting and presentation materials are attached. Please feel free to share with your team.

As a reminder, our next CHRO Board virtual meeting – March 25, 1pm ET / 10am PT. As always, please let us know of any feedback you have on this meeting and how we can improve going forward.

Take care and stay well.

Kurt
