"Return to office” Strategies

While all the companies represented on the i4cp CHRO Board are doing incredible things, we highlighted a few for examples that inspire us:

  • Our Healthcare Companies continue to do amazing work…Banner Health, BCBS Tennessee, Brigham Health, Providence Health and Spectrum Health.
  • Avanade is helping remote workers with intuitive technology.
  • Land O’ Lakes is working with rural communities to tackle the lack of broadband access.
  • Black Hills Energy is helping customers who are unable to pay.
  • Booz Allen Hamilton has a “Pandemic Resilience Program”, including major benefit enhancements to support employees dealing with health, childcare and COVID-19 issues, plus a pledge of job security through July 1. In addition, they are providing funding, assistance, and technology expertise to aid vulnerable populations and frontline healthcare workers.
  • Vulcan is offering financial assistance to the most vulnerable in their community and investing in the social safety net necessary to ensure local business, nonprofits and arts organizations survive the economic crisis caused by this pandemic.
  • USAA is voluntarily retuning over $800M in auto insurance premiums to members.
  • Kelly Services, through Kelly Education, has stepped in to help families by connecting then to a talented pool of teachers serving as virtual tutors.
  • McCormick is committing over $1M to support food bans in nearly 20 countries, as well as local restaurant and hospitality workers.

At the May meeting, John Boudreau led a discussion about “return to office” strategies and how to forge a new workplace, responding to the pressures and opportunities that COVID has revealed.

  • This discussion covered a lot of territory, including the role CHRO’s must play in leading their companies toward a “new normal”. This includes helping determine how many people are required in office vs. remotely, how to think through reconstructing work and helping leaders adapt to a “personalized” workforce, where “one size fits nobody”.
  • There was interest from several members, led by Judy Zagorski, to continue work on defining processes and tools necessary for the “new normal” workplace.

We ended the meeting with a short presentation on “The New Corporate Currency”, finalizing our work in this area: May 2020 Meeting Presentation
