General Manager Development

In response to the multiple responses to a recent email (see below) we held a special meeting to discuss General Manager Development. Responses came from both sides of the equation – those who are doing great things and those who are eager to learn more.

To provide structure to the discussion, we interviewed a panel of three Board members who have done considerable work in the area: Cheryl Doggett of Anthem, Joe Garbus of Marsh & McLennan, and Judy Kelly of Bristol-Meyers Squibb.

John W. Coné

John’s email from late December:

Leadership development is always a critical topic for the CLTO Board. In this case, one of our members is particularly concerned with the general manager. (Generically, that’s someone who manages managers and has P&L responsibility.) Your fellow Board member is interested in learning what you are doing to develop incumbent GMs as well as how you are developing the pipeline into these critical roles.

If you’ve done work in this space, it would be great to see any examples of the what and how you are doing, your overall approach, and any tools or partners you’d recommend.

This meeting is exclusively for members of the Chief Learning & Talent Officer Board. If you'd like to participate, please contact us to see if you qualify. If you are an i4cp member, please log in to access the registration/meeting details.
