Collaboration

During out February meeting, we discussed the following:

First, Jay Jamrog led a discussion on how to address the uncertainly of initiatives coming from the new administration in Washington DC.  A few of the highlights:

·       The Board expressed concerns over the uncertainty of emerging immigration policy, including where its headed and how to source talent and services.

·       Two Board members cited very direct impacts - Students pulling out of universities and issues relate to the government hiring freeze.

·       Several Board members noted the need for increased prioritization on building the talent needed, especially where global mobility is essential. This may require different partnering and sourcing strategies.

·       Board members also discussed the amount of time and emotional energy employees are giving to the new administration in Washington, D.C.

Next, the Board voted unanimously on the topic of the study that i4cp will pursue on its behalf: What the C Suite and Board need from the Chief HR Officer.  I4cp will plan to launch this study in early Q2. This led to a discussion on how to effectively work with investors who remain concerned with executive compensation issues.

Finally, Kevin Martin summarized new research on Collaboration that i4cp is doing with Rob Cross (professor of management at Babson College and a coauthor of The Hidden Power of Social Networks). Rob also co-wrote an article published in the Jan-Feb 2016 issue of the Harvard Business Review titled “Collaborative Overload”).  Rob will speak to the CHRO Board on March 20 in Scottsdale. Kevin also highlighted other upcoming research i4cp is engaged in.
