We are looking for a governance model for our HR services group. We want to go well beyond tracking call statistics. We are looking for criteria to guide how decision get made in a COE/Service Center enviroment - strategy vs. operations. E.g., where do benefits appeals get addressed (COE or Operations). Any guidance would be appreciated!

An i4cp member company is looking to prorate new hires into the organization-wide annual review cycle right from their hire date. Currently, performance reviews for new employees are done at their one-year anniversary and then they are prorated into the next annual review. This approach provides operational and planning challenges where reviews and merit increases are occurring throughout the year for newer employees in addition to the annual review cycle for the general employee base. How do i4cp members solve for this and the proration challenge in particular for those hired near the end of the year?

“A prospective member of i4cp operates a significant Business Process and IT Outsourcing line of business. Many of their sales are long term contracts with their clients and a large component of their service delivery is people related. So estimating future costs for their technical people working on client accounts is critical for them to maintain long term deal profitability. There have been a few recent cases where they have been surprised by unforeseen changes in demand for specific skilled workforce members and a resulting increase in the wages needed to attract and retain the talent required for this business to meet is profit and contribution targets. They are looking to network with companies which may have developed a reliable way to estimate and forecast future salary increases and potentially estimate global workforce demand changes and incorporate them in the deal pricing..”

We are looking to build customer focus capabilities, particularly within our high potential population, and I would like to learn what other organizations are doing to enhance their focus on external customers. What processes are in place to move the organization along the evolutionary curve from internal to customer focused? What obstacles have you experienced?

I am a senior strategist with the US Navy. For the first time in my memory (and I was a Naval aviator for 22 years), we are having to release, involuntariliy, almost 3,000 quality sailors to ensure we don't exceed our Congressionally mandated end strength. These sailors have between 6-15 years of quality service in many job occupations directly transferrable to the civilian sector. Many have civilian certifications in their specialty. All have leadership training and experience, work to task completion, work well independently yet have excelled as part of a team. Every one of them not only excels in his or her job but a majority have taken on other jobs at the same time, including training specialist or financial management specialist.

Each one has been told in December and must leave by September although could request to depart early if they have a job in hand. All will be paid by Navy to relocate once. Many will be willing to relocate if they feel they can be successful in the job. All are being asked to leave because they were in overmanned job specialties in the Navy

We'd like to engage with top employers to link up with these employers. Please contact me at wayne.wagner@navy.mil or, directly, at 703-604-3594,
