Jim is an accomplished business executive with keen experience in change management, human capital analysis, organizational development, executive coaching, leadership development, complex M&A integration, complex employee relations resolution and HR alignment with business imperatives.
Jim is currently supporting the growth of the Human Capital Consulting & Publishing firm as the Chief Operating Officer. He provides executive level thought leadership and HR consulting in the areas of executive coaching, leadership development, merger & acquisition integration, organization and HR assessment, and change management.
He recently served as the Interim SVP, Human Resources for Inova Health System. This is the largest private employer in Northern Virginia with over 16,200 employees. He led the total HR division at this 70-facility healthcare organization.
Prior to Inova Health System, Jim was the Principal Consultant at J. E. Thomas & Associates, a HR and Management consulting firm which supported companies interested in utilizing the experience and skill he and his associates possess in the areas mentioned above.
Jim also served as a human resources consultant for NeuStar, Inc. At this leading global communications company he had responsibility for all human resources functions. Some other clients included the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Teneros, Inc., a software company and Alexander's Mobility Services, a global relocation and mobility services company.
He previously served as the Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Administration for webMethods, Inc. In this position he was responsible for the human resources, facilities, and information technology departments and provided leadership to these functions worldwide. Jim' professional experience spans diverse companies and industries. He has successfully held management positions at Ford Motor Company, Lockheed Martin's Aerospace, Data Systems, and Information and Communication Systems companies, American Red Cross-National Headquarters, LCI International (acquired by Qwest Com.) and 2nd Century Communications.
Prior to joining webMethods, Mr. Thomas provided HR and Management consulting to companies in the Washington, DC area as a member of the consulting firm of T.J. Ettinger, Inc. Jim was requested numerous times to lead major human resources restructuring and change management projects.
He is considered a proactive leader, collegial business partner and successful leader and developer of human resources and management professionals. Mr. Thomas has developed, managed, or implemented the installation of HRIS, creative executive compensation programs, stock incentive plans, executive and management coaching and development programs, diversity programs, merger and acquisition due diligence and integration plans, change management processes, strategic human resources restructuring programs, HR Audits, organizational effectiveness assessments, organizational design initiatives, and labor negotiations. He has also previously managed real estate and facilities departments and systems implementations.
Jim serves on the Advisory Board of the Northern Virginia Community Foundation. In 2004 he was honored by receiving the Foundation's highest recognition presented to a Board member for providing outstanding service - The Crystal Award. In 2006 he was also honored by being a HR Leadership Award Finalist in the Large Commercial Industry category for this Metropolitan Washington, DC area Human Resources award. He is a member of the Potomac Officers Club, the Senior Human Resources Executive Forum and the Society for Human Resource Management. He was appointed in 2008 to the prestigious Executive-In-Residence group for the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4CP) a prominent human capital research organization.
